This past Friday, I was lucky enough to be invited by @FuelTheUprise to take photos of The Devil Wears Prada, Memphis May Fire, Like Moths to Flames, Something You Whisper, and Dorian Gray at the Opera House while the Rise Up Tour was passing through Toronto.
Fortunate for me, the guys in Something You Whisper are actually personal friends of mine and I was able to hitch a ride in their van insuring I got to the venue extra early to see where I could access for the night. I'm really glad I took this opportunity as I also got to meet a few people I did not anticipate and had some really good conversations with Greg of Like Moths to Flames and Giuseppe, the new drummer for The Devil Wears Prada, in addition to some fellow photographers Johnny Costa and Tim Farmer who were out on the tour with Like Moths to Flames and Memphis May Fire.
I was lucky enough to have some slight amount of stage access which was awesome even in the short amount of time I got to spend up there.
Overall the night went really well with pretty much all of the bands having good lighting. Well I wouldn't say good lightning, but anything that isn't dark or filled with only red lighting, I love it. The band who definitely gave me the biggest challenge was The Devil Wears Prada. They used pretty much all back lightning combined with a lot of strobes, which made it rather difficult to get anything in focus. To combat this I simply had to switch my focus points and switch out of "One Shot" to "servo" settings which made things a lot easier.
I just want to thank Joey Porpiglia, Katelyn Almeda and @FuelTheUprise, and Tom and all the guys in Something You Whisper for letting me come out to the show.
Until next time,
- Logan Reid
