about logan reid
My name is Logan Reid, if that isn't apparent enough. I do photography, and live concert footage of bands in today's music industry.
My interest in photography started for me when I was 16; September 24th, 2009, my friends decided to take me to my first concert ever. I went to see Silverstein, and A Day to Remember on their Canadian tour. The amount of energy that everyone brought and how interactive all of the bands were blew my mind. What I found to be most unbelievable was when I met Andrew of Ten Second Epic who opened the show and was able to get pictures taken with him. It was just amazing as I thought of band members, especially vocalists as celebrities at the time, and I was able to take the memory home, that is until my camera got destroyed in a mosh pit. After that, I was determined to start taking photos so I could remember all of these memories.
Not being able to afford a new camera, I started taking photos on a camera phone. The quality was horrible, yet it made it possible to take home photos, and videos of everything that was happening around me. It was during this period of time though that I figured out what I wanted to do with all of this, this is when I decided I wanted to make these moments more than a hobby. Of course, I couldn't do that with a cell phone camera.
My first camera I started using was a Samsung ES73, a cheap little camera that was the only thing I could afford. I would take it to all of the concerts I went to. This is when I also started eventually filming live performances. I would record the first song of each of groups set, and uploaded the video to YouTube. It both shocked and amazed me when these videos were all getting close to a thousand views each. After that I knew I had to start shooting more, and started filming entire bands sets. It was tiring, but the excitement it gave me when thousands of people would watch what I was posting was well worth it.
The first place to let me come and shoot was for the S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival in St. Catherines. It ended up not too bad, but I was a mess and everything was confusing. I was filming with a camcorder, and taking photos with a little digital camera. Looking back, most of it is just terrible. As bad as that was, it got me access to a much bigger show, the Vans Warped Tour 2012. I was being given the chance to shoot for some of my favourite bands in Of Mice & Men, Yellowcard, and Sleeping With Sirens just to name a few. Of course though, I needed a new camera, I wasn't going to put myself through more crappy videos and photos. So I bought a Nikon Coolpix L810. If you happen to know cameras at all, you know that's a simple digital camera, but at that time, I wasn't too well educated. I thought I was buying a DSLR. Needless to say, while the quality was still really good for a digital camera it did not perform up to expectations.
So for once I did a little research on cameras. While not getting too much attention, I had tons of local bands requesting me to cover their shows, and even got access to do media at some bigger shows like Underoath's farewell tour, and even got to go backstage with Blessthefall and A Skylit Drive at their show.
A lot has happened since then. I've gotten even better equipment to use, a Canon Rebel T3i DSLR and a Sony DSC-HX50V, have had the opportunity to shoot some huge artists, do more interviews, now I just continue and hope for the best, try and make my dreams come true.
If you read this full thing... You're pretty cool. Thanks!
